It was a fine spring day in his new Texas mission parish.
He walked to the window of his bedroom to get a deep breath of the beautiful day outside.
He then noticed there was a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn.
He promptly called the local police station......
The conversation went like this:
"Good morning. This is Sergeant Jones. How might I help you?"
"And the best of the day te yerself. This is Father O'Malley at St. Ann's Catholic Church.
There's a jackass lying dead in me front lawn and would ye be so kind as to send a couple o'yer lads to take care of the matter?"
Sergeant Jones, considering himself to be quite a wit, replied with a smirk,
"Well now Father, it was always my impression that you people took care of the last rites!"
There was dead silence on the line for a long moment......
Father O'Malley then replied: "Aye, 'tis certainly true; but we are also obliged to notify the next of kin."

Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson delivered remarks Sept. 8 at the dedication of the new McGivney Hall at The Catholic University of America. The building was renamed in honor of the Venerable Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney after it was renovated with funding from the Knights of Columbus.

The Fourth Degree
The Fourth Degree is the highest degree of the order. Members of this degree are addressed as Sir Knight. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism and to encourage active Catholic citizenship. A Knight is eligible to join the Fourth Degree after one year from the date of his First Degree, providing he has completed the 2nd and 3rd degrees beforehand.
Assemblies are distinct from councils and are led by a separate set of elected officers. The Supreme Board of Directors appoints a Supreme Master and twenty Vice Supreme Masters to govern the Fourth Degree. Each Vice Supreme Master oversees a Province which is then broken up into Districts. The Supreme Master appoints District Masters to supervise several assemblies.
Each assembly is led by a Navigator. Other elected assembly officers include the Captain, Admiral, Pilot, Scribe, Purser, Comptroller, Sentinels and Trustees. A Friar and Color Corps Commander are appointed by the Navigator. Assembly officers are properly addressed by using the title faithful (e.g. Faithful Navigator). Assemblies are numbered in the order in which they chartered into the Order and are named by the local membership.
Only Fourth Degree Knights may optionally purchase the full regalia and join the Assembly's Color Corps. The Color Corps is the most visible arm of the Knights as they are often seen in parades and other local events wearing their colorful regalia. Official dress for the Color Corps is a black tuxedo, baldric, white gloves, cape and naval chapeau. White tuxedos may also be used on certain occasions. Baldrics are worn from the right shoulder to left hip and are color specific by nation. In the United States, baldrics are red, white and blue. Service baldrics include a scabbard for a sword and are worn over the coat while social baldrics are worn under the coat. The colors on a Fourth Degree Knight's cape, and chapeau, denote the office he holds within the Degree. Faithful Navigators and Past Faithful Navigators are permitted to carry a white handled silver sword. Masters and Vice Supreme Masters, as well as Former Masters and Former Vice Supreme Masters, are also denoted by their gold swords.
The need for a patriotic degree was first considered in 1886 and a special plea was made at the National Meeting of 1899. The first Fourth Degree exemplification followed in 1900 with 1,100 Knights participating at the Lenox Lyceum in New York City.Today there are more than 2,500 Assemblies.
At Mass we are in the presence of
Jesus; let your attire and actions show your
respect for His presence.

Meeting Attendance Incentive
As an attendance incentive, a 50/50 drawing is held after each of our regular meetings. Here's a chance to win some extra CASH and enjoy the fellowship of your brother Knights.
WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
As an integral part of the world's largest and most dynamic Catholic fraternal organization, you will be united with over 1.6 million Brothers and their families in 12,000 local councils located in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Central America and the Caribbean.
Your personal involvement as a Knight will provide opportunities, in charity and fraternity, for service to the Church at the local, diocesan and universal levels; to your communities; and to the less fortunate in our midst.
Your active participation in council affairs: spiritual, fraternal, family, social, civic-oriented, athletic and recreational - will serve as a school of leadership and enable you to develop qualities that enhance your strengths and abilities.
You will enjoy a sense of "belonging" in an organization that shares your religious beliefs, brings together like-minded men joined in a common cause, and offers the opportunity to develop and cement friendships for years to come.
Your concerns for your family and for your retirement years can be addressed by the Order's low-cost insurance program, conducted by Brother Knights for Brother Knights. The Order's insurance program will assure the security of your family and provide peace of mind for you.
You will share in the sense pride all Knights feel in knowing that their Order is second to none in support of Our Holy Father, our Bishops and Priests; in working for our fellow man, especially those most in need; and in binding together to preserve traditional values in the face of attacks against the family and innocent human life.
You'll feel GREAT about yourself!
